GAMIFICATION IN AN LMS
Learner engagement is key to increasing and maintaining continued usage of an LMS. Returning learners are very important because it essentially indicates a growing culture of learning and development within your organization.
Abara LMS sports an easy-to-use gamification feature that acts as an extension to traditional post-training certificates. It associates learning material completions with badges, points, and peer linked leaderboards.
WHY DO YOU NEED GAMIFICATION IN AN LMS?
An LMS is used for a variety of audiences including:
New hires
Existing employees
Tenured team members
People who have worked with a variety of organizations before they join your organization
If you add age wise demographics to this mix, your organization’s age groups will encompass employees from Gen-X, Z, Baby Boomers, and everything in between.
Their views, motivation to start, continue, and complete learning is varied as one shoe does not fit all. While you may not need gamification as an incentive to encourage all learners to use your LMS often, you do need it for a part of your organization.
Further, your LMS can be used for:
New hire training and onboarding
Compliance training for all
Sales training
Leadership training
Upskilling
System training
We do not suggest all courses and all audience groups need gamification, but choosing an LMS which allows you to tap into the reward centers of a learner’s mind to get them into the habit of learning is a good idea.
GAMIFICATION IN ABARA LMS
Abara LMS has taken a well-reasoned approach to gamification within an LMS. Less is more to ensure that you don’t trivialize serious compliance matters, alienate specific user groups, and more importantly, treat your learners with the respect that they deserve.
Beyond your traditional certificates within Abara LMS which are suitable for some audience groups, we have included features to leverage three key aspects tied to human motivational dynamics:
Providing a sense of progress tied to shorter goals especially for longer courses and programs
Build learner confidence via reward (virtual or tied to real-world ones)
Provide an opportunity for recognition within peer groups
Tap into your learners’ own sense of accomplishment
GAMIFICATION FEATURES
We have used a combination of the following methods to tap into learner engagement and motivation.
Badges: Virtual badges with custom graphics which align to your industry can be created. Learners earn these by completing learning activities or by receiving one manually by an administrator or instructor.
Points: Points are associated with each badge so that the learner accumulates points with every progress made in earning badges.
Leaderboards: Points earned can accumulate and allow learners to go up any peer or group linked leaderboards created by the administrators – location, department, group, role or function.
